What makes Warsaw to Berlin different

  • This EuroCity service crosses into Poland at Frankfurt (Oder), over a bridge across the Oder river into Rzepin, and calls at Poznan roughly midway between the two capitals - a single ticket covers the whole roughly 570km run without a change of train.
  • Deutsche Bahn and PKP Intercity expanded this route's 2026 timetable to a roughly two-hourly EuroCity service, up to seven direct departures a day each way - a notable jump in frequency on what had long been a thinner schedule.
  • German budget operator FlixTrain has announced plans to launch its own Berlin-Warsaw service via Poznan, which would be the first low-cost rail competition on this exact corridor - currently the jointly-run DB/PKP EuroCity has it to itself.

Warsaw station

Departs from Warszawa Centralna's underground platforms - elevators and escalators handle the full climb from the 1970s-built main hall above, and the mezzanine level's supermarket is a useful last stop for snacks before a multi-hour journey.

Berlin station

For now, arrives at Berlin Gesundbrunnen rather than Hauptbahnhof - an above-ground S-Bahn station connected to U-Bahn line U8 and S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S25, S26, S41 and S42, plus the airport express FEX - a workable but less central substitute, until Hauptbahnhof services resume after the Stadtbahn reopens in December 2026.

Train vs. other options

At 570km this is one of the longer rail hops on this site, and unlike most Eurotraintrip routes, direct flights between Warsaw and Berlin do exist - but with both cities' airports sitting outside the center and the train running Warszawa Centralna to a genuinely central Berlin station (even the current temporary Gesundbrunnen stop is well inside the city, unlike an airport), the time saved by flying is smaller here than the raw distance suggests.

Booking tips

  • Advance EuroCity fares start from about EUR 28 in second class; the fully flexible walk-up fare is closer to EUR 80-90, so book ahead if your dates are fixed.
  • Seat reservation is compulsory on this Berlin-Poland EuroCity service, not optional like most purely domestic German ICE trains - it's bundled into the ticket price automatically when you book.
  • From 14 June to 12 December 2026, the Berlin Stadtbahn is completely closed to regional and long-distance trains between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof for engineering work, so the Berlin-Warszawa-Express currently starts and ends at Berlin Gesundbrunnen instead of Berlin Hauptbahnhof - check your ticket's listed station, not just habit, before you travel.

Good to know: Because the Berlin Stadtbahn is fully closed to trains between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof from 14 June to 12 December 2026, this service currently terminates at Berlin Gesundbrunnen rather than Berlin Hauptbahnhof - a temporary but real change that catches out travelers used to the usual Hbf arrival.

Berlin trades postcard prettiness for sheer historical density - the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag's glass dome, and a preserved mile-plus of the Wall at the East Side Gallery all sit within a short ride of each other, alongside a museum and nightlife scene that easily fills more than a day trip.

Yes - the Berlin-Warszawa-Express EuroCity runs direct, roughly every two hours, covering about 570km in 4h55m to 5h30m depending on the departure.

Does the Warsaw-Berlin train arrive at Berlin Hauptbahnhof?

Not currently - from 14 June to 12 December 2026, engineering works close the Berlin Stadtbahn, so the train terminates at Berlin Gesundbrunnen instead. Normal Hauptbahnhof service is expected to resume once the works finish.
