- This was the original line that launched the Thalys brand: the first Thalys train ran Paris-Brussels on 4 June 1996 over slower conventional track, taking 2h07m. It wasn't until Belgium's HSL 1 high-speed line opened in December 1997 that the journey dropped to close to today's roughly 1h22m.
- Paris-Brussels has run under the unified Eurostar brand since the Thalys name was formally retired on 1 October 2023 - but older red ex-Thalys trainsets still operate alongside blue Eurostar ones on this exact route.
- With around 25 direct daily departures over just 260km, this is one of the highest-frequency international high-speed corridors in Europe - more direct trains a day than the longer Paris-London or Paris-Amsterdam legs on the same network.

Departs from Paris Gare du Nord in the 10th arrondissement, Europe's busiest railway station by passenger numbers. Brussels- and Amsterdam-bound Eurostar services check in and board from the same fenced international departure area, separate from the UK-bound platforms and the domestic RER/Transilien concourse.

Arrives at Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid, Belgium's main international rail hub, with metro lines 2 and 6 and several tram/premetro lines directly beneath the station. The station and its immediate surroundings are a well-documented pickpocket hotspot, so keep bags close through the concourse rather than lingering.
Train vs. other options
At only 260km, there's essentially no scheduled commercial flight market left between Paris and Brussels - the roughly 1h22m center-to-center train beats flying outright once airport transfers on both ends are counted. Driving the A1 motorway typically takes 3 hours or more depending on Paris and Brussels ring-road traffic.
Booking tips
- Book as early as possible - Eurostar's cheapest Standard fares for this route are released furthest ahead and sell out first, especially for Friday evening and Sunday departures.
- Tuesday-Thursday departures are consistently cheaper than Friday or Sunday travel.
- Because this train never leaves the Schengen Area, there's no passport control - Eurostar recommends arriving just 20 minutes before departure here, well under the 60-90 minutes needed for the Paris-London leg from the same Gare du Nord terminal.
Good to know: Eurostar recommends arriving just 20 minutes before departure for Paris-Brussels - less buffer than the 20-30 minutes suggested for the Amsterdam leg of the same network - since the route never leaves Schengen and there's no passport check, only a bag-screening step before the gates close a flat 30 minutes ahead of departure.
